Pre-Coaching

How can coaching influence and change your life? Don’t just be a leader, be an exceptional leader. This is just the start.

Understanding Self

Self-awareness theory is based on the idea that you are not your thoughts, but the entity observing your thoughts; you are the thinker, separate and apart from your thoughts (Duval & Wicklund, 1972). Simply put, self-awareness is the ability to perceive and understand your own emotions and behaviors. It’s about knowing your strengths and weaknesses, your triggers and your values. Leaders who are self-aware are able to regulate their emotions, respond effectively to stress, and build strong relationships.

The benefits of having self-awareness is that:

  1. It helps leaders be more effective at work. By understanding your own strengths and weaknesses, you can better delegate tasks, give clear instructions, and provide useful feedback
  2. It can help leaders create a more positive work environment. When you are aware of your own emotions, you can better regulate them and avoid taking out your stress on others
  3. It helps leaders build trust with their team. When employees see that their leader is honest about their mistakes and is working to improve, it creates a feeling of safety and mutual respect.

There are many ways to cultivate self-awareness and one way is to take a step back from our busy lives and simply observe our thoughts and feelings without judgment through the practise of mindfulness and meditation; Keep a journal – tracking your thoughts and emotions on a daily basis can help you gain insights into your patterns of behavior; Seek feedback by asking trusted friends and family members for honest feedback about your strengths and weaknesses and finally, take a personality test (such as DISC) helps you identify your personality type and gain insights into how you interact with the world. Ultimately, self-awareness is essential for any leader who wants to be successful in today’s workplace.

Leading Yourself

It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and commitment to be a great leader. But being a leader is also incredibly rewarding Leaders are usually associated with being in charge of other people. However, being a good leader isn’t just about being in charge of other people – it’s also about leading yourself. Just as you would motivate and inspire others, you need to motivate and inspire yourself especially in a post pandemic world.

When you lead yourself, you become more confident and capable, and you become a role model, setting an example for others to follow.

So how do you lead yourself?

  1. First, you need to have a clear vision of what you want to achieve. What are your goals? What does success look like to you? Once you have a clear picture of your goals, you can start making a plan to achieve them. It also means being able to put your own needs aside in order to focus on the task at hand
  2. A good leader is required to be able to take responsibility for your own actions and decisions.

So, if you’re looking for ways to lead yourself, remember that it’s just as important to be responsible and motivated as it is to be in charge.

Leading Your Team

A good leader is someone who can bring out the best in their team and help them to achieve success. Leading a team effectively can be a challenge in today’s hybrid workplace. With employees working both in-person and remotely, it’s important to find a way to lead that works for everyone.

This part of the Quest covers the following to ensure success in leading teams in today’s VUCA environment:

  1. Be adaptable: The hybrid workplace is constantly changing, so it’s important to be adaptable as a leader. Be open to new ideas and ways of doing things
  2. Communicate clearly: With employees spread out, communication is more important than ever. Make sure you are clear and concise in your communications, so everyone is on the same page
  3. Handle conflict wisely: Conflict is inevitable, but how you handle it can make a big difference. Try to resolve conflicts quickly and efficiently, while still being respectful of everyone involved
  4. Respect diversity: In a hybrid workplace, you will likely have employees from all walks of life. It’s important to respect and value diversity, so everyone feels included and respected
Elevate Your Leadership

Elevate your leadership skills by being a leader that coach. When you coach, you create a positive environment and also improve the performance of your team members. When you are able to coach, you are better able to connect with your team members, understand their goals, and help them develop the skills and knowledge needed to achieve those goals. Additionally, coaching helps to build trust between leaders and team members, which is essential for effective communication and collaboration. Leaders who are able to coach their team members are better able to create a high-performing team that is able to achieve great things. Furthermore, when you coach, it allows you to develop other leaders. When you are able to coach other leaders, you help them be successful in their roles which helps to create a pipeline of leaders within your organization.
